Az. Agr. Favaro, Benito from Rinascimento Wine Co.
The tiny family vineyard of “Le Chiusure” is tended to solely by Benito Favaro and his son Camillo. They specialize in the local grape Erbaluce, which is indigenous to their mountain town of Piverone. The entire estate is only about 3 acres. The Favaro family has built their winery on the passion for local history, and wanting to produce a really outstanding, small-production wine. It is precisely because Erbaluce is produced in such limited quantities, and is so rarely found in the United States that it was important to add this up and coming producer to the portfolio. In addition to continuing to preserve another small autochthonous grape variety, another interesting, passionate winemaker/s story is being heard.

Castel Noarna from Rinascimento Wine Co
The Castel Noarna winemaking philosophy has always been one of “no compromise”. This small winery manages to grow enough fruit on its steeply terraced grounds to produce only 35,000 bottles/year. The estate grows many grape varieties, including autochthonous grapes like Lagrein and Nosiola, local to Nogaredo. Castel Noarna manages to strike a perfect balance between upholding the past and protecting the cultural identity within which these wines are produced, while still striving for contemporary improvements and utilizing the best of modern-day technology.

G.D. Vajra from Rinascimento Wine Co
The estate of GD Vajra (named for its currents operator Aldo Vajra's grandfather, Giuseppe Domenico), is situated in Vergne, the highest village in the Commune of Barolo. Its vineyards are planted with Nebbiolo, Dolcetto and Barbera at heights of 350-400 meters, which results in distinctive and aromatic wines. The Vajra family is a group of dedicated, passionate winegrowers, who are also grounded and sensitive to the human role in winemaking. Their philosophy remains faithful to the traditional and authentic wines of Piemonte, and in essence they regard themselves as the instruments that enable nature and the environment full self-expression through their wines.

Ronco Severo from Rinascimento Wine Company
Care and attention; for the vignes, for the winery, for the environment, for the generations to come. This signifies putting a stop to all chemical products in the vineyards and a non-interventionalist style of winemaking that allows the free expession of the grape and the soil. All the wines are macerated on the skins for extended periods of time giving increased complexity and silky texture and body. All the wines are unfiltered and unfined in hopes of keeping all of their flavor intact at bottling. Stefano Novello produces wines that can be drunk now or that can be kept for many years to come.

Az. Agr. Macea di Filippini Antonella Vulga Renato from Rinascimento Wine Company
Cipriano Barsanti and his brother run this small estate and agriturismo in the hills above Lucca with their mother, Antonella. Working their grapevines using biodynamic and organic methods, these guys create tiny lots of wine that they only really sell in Lucca and at their agritourismo. Cipriano is also a consulting enologist for many other producers in the area.
